It’s also affectionately known as the “Prairie State”, where their prized snack food includes popcorn and their beloved fruit is the GoldRush Apple. With plenty of farmland for raising cattle and pigs, lush forests, rolling hills and wetlands, there’s lots of land diversity ideal to growing local crops as well as grapes for budding wineries in the region you’ll want to learn about and try. From popular local diners to fine dining such as the legendary Alinea Restaurant in Chicago, this is one state you won’t want to miss out on.
